CLASSROOM

The late for class bell rang; no one was late for third period math class while their instructor, Mr. X, kept himself occupied with a monitor.  A student pulled a rare piece of paper wrapped around an equally rare writing utensil from a pocket on his jacket without Mr.X knowing.  What was informed to these students during second period science made it seem to the students that Mr.X was the lease bit worried.  The student wrote a few words down, positioned the paper somewhat centered between each end, tucked then tightly wrapped the paper around the writing instrument to the very end, ultimately passing it to the student next to him.  Mr.X continued to be preoccupied at his desk.

QUARTERS

A caring mother walked her daughter from the school's nurse's office to their living space.  This student wasn't feeling up to it after second period ended.  She kept her head down, arms crossed laying against her sternum, slow paced walk.  Her mother previously gathered a few items that she knew should make her feel better.  A warm hand towel, a glass of water and fruit juice, lights turned dim, a few more pillows for her bed also an osculating fan was placed nearby.  A couple of extra throw blankets and her stuffed animal.  She placed the bed controller nearby.

'Come lay down, Honey.  You're not feeling good this morning?  Don't worry about classes today, let us get you feeling better.'

CLASSROOM

The second student read what was written after his careful unravel, he said to himself, there's no way I’m going to die on this ship in the middle of nowhere!  He thought of what his second period instructor said to the class.  This is your Biology!  Biology is everywhere!   He wrote three words down, wrapped the writing utensil just as he found it and then passed it to the student next to him.  Mr.X continued with what he was doing without a care in the world, though seemed to the classmates.

QUARTERS

            ‘Die on a ship.’

            ‘What did you say?’

'All we're going to do is die in this ship?'

'Honey, we're doing a remarkable thing.  What you learned today in class was to prepare you, strengthen you, encourage you.  You're going to be a great Biologist, a smart explorer for this amazing universe.'

'This space is a deadly place.  We're turning this ship around; we're not going to let you kill us.'

'What in Heavens are you talking about?  No one is going to be killed.'

CLASSROOM

The third student quietly laid what was passed to him diagonally on his desk.  He held down the bottom portion of the paper while using the lead recorder to unravel like a scroll.  He read what had been written and then he too ran down what was said during second period.  Travel through space to continue our race!  This ship is all we will get to experience to stroll upon.  He thought to himself, these teachers took us away from everything we could have lived for...took us away from our home.  It's nice outside, if you're a rock or burning gas, he wrote down then passed it on.

‘Cauchy sequence or not a Cauchy sequence.’

Their educator held two items each of his hands.  One a funnel, the other a tube.

‘Which one is not?  This one?’

He shook the tube making his way through the isle, then spoke his last words.

            ‘This one is not.’

A student held out a leg to trip their educator.  His glasses despairingly fell from their position on his person, then crashed onto the floor; they slid a bit, stopping at the same time he made it to the floor.

They know they only have three other teachers to take care of.  Two mother’s and two fathers.

HALLWAYS

They search and search the ship but can’t find Mr. X and Mrs. X.

QUARTERS

'We're too far away.  Our time will pass before we get there.  Please understand,' her mother explained.

'I don't care about this mission.  You don't care about yourself, us or me.  I can't believe we're in the middle of nothing in nowhere!'

'It's amazing on this ship.  I get to be with you and love you and teach you and watch you grow.  I love talking with you; you are my world, please understand.'

Her daughter received a kiss on her forehead before leaving bedside.  She gripped the neck of the lamp resting on the end table. This is your Biology! echoed inside her mind.  Its cord stretched before the male-end flung its way from the socket.  The lamp, now in midair, traveling to a destination unknown to X’s mother.  The shade tumbled onto the carpeted floor to a gentle right side up position after settling in place.

she leaves their room to find her classmates.
